Your first Croatian case.

Genitiv in Croatian expresses possesion. It is also used with loads of prepositions!

Below you’ll find a table that shows how the nouns change depending on the gender and singular and plural form.

One use of genitive is that something belongs to someone. It’s used to say that a street or square is named after someone. So, in Croatian, we say “Street of X”, or “Square of Y” which translates to ulica X-gen and trg Y-gen.

Genitive is used with some verbs, with many prepositions (words like “without”, “from”, in

some other instances, etc.

It’s also used with the following prepositions: next to, of, in front of, under, above, etc.

Ana sjedi ispred ________ (Ivan). Ana is sitting in front of Ivan.

Pokraj ________ (stolica) je stol. Next to the chair there is a table.

Ispod ________ (prozor) je parking. Under the window there is a parking.

Poviše ________ (Ivan) žive roditelji od _______ (Ana). Above Ivan’s parents live Ana’s parents.

Iza ________ (auto) je dućan. Behind the car there is a shop.
